Not all AI arrives as a separate app you have to learn. Some of it simply appears inside the tools you already use, and that is Google's play. Gemini is woven through Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet, aiming to help where you already work rather than in yet another tab.
The pitch is convenience: an assistant that drafts your email, summarises your doc and builds your formula without you ever leaving the page.
What it adds in practice
- Gmail and Docs — drafting, rewriting and summarising in place.
- Sheets — help with formulas, tables and making sense of data.
- Meet — automatic notes and summaries so nobody has to scribble.
Is it worth turning on?
If your business already lives in Google Workspace, Gemini's in-context help is genuinely convenient and worth trialling. If you barely use those apps, a standalone assistant may serve you better. As with every AI tool, check the data terms on your plan and keep a human eye on anything it produces, it is an assistant, not an authority.
The bigger lesson: AI is increasingly a feature of the software you already own, not a separate purchase. Before buying a new tool, it is worth asking what your current stack quietly gained in its last update.
